The Edge of Reason was a five-star read for me and very much my kind of book. It still gives you the gratuitous spicy romance I want, but there's also a surprising amount of emotional depth.
There's a huge plot twist, tons of yearning, and a friends-to-lovers romance that completely worked for me.
This is one of my favorite friends-to-lovers romances I've read, and I love that it manages to pack so much emotion into a relatively short book.

6. The Summer We Fell by Elizabeth O'Roark

And if you're looking for a messy, angsty second-chance romance, The Summer We Fell is another one to add to your list.
There's a major trauma that's revealed later in the book, which adds another layer to an already complicated relationship.
This is another book that proves you don't need 500 pages to tell a big, emotional story. It's packed with angst, complicated feelings, and romance in just around 300 pages.
